Salt & The Human Body

Then he went out to the source of the water, and cast in the salt there, and said “thus says the Lord”: I have healed this water; from it there shall be no more death or barrenness. ‘”2 Kings 2:21

How much salt must I take daily?

As long as it is natural mineral salt, take as much as possible or 1-3 tablespoon daily.

Is salt really bad for you? Many argue that it is the cause of cholesterol and high blood pressure, and should be avoided at all costs. However, the answer is really “yes” and “no”. Yes, salt is bad for your body if it is refined “fake” salt, or processed sodium chloride.

Conversely, salt is actually good for you when it comes from the sea or mountains with all their natural minerals. So good that it is actually one of the 4 pillars essential for good health. However, you must make a distinction between real versus fake salt and only eat real salt, which delivers multiple benefits. Comparing the two, you can see how ingesting “fake” salt can be detrimental to your health!

Real Natural Salt & Its Benefits
When you eat real natural Himalayan salt, you are taking in the 84 trace minerals and elements necessary for optimal health. What is even more miraculous is that it contains the exact same elements produced by your body’s mineral factory! So, you are in fact replenishing your body with the perfect match of minerals that enable and improve your body function. The best part is that this natural salt contains no toxins at all.

These significant and important minerals include sodium chloride, sulphate, calcium, potassium and magnesium. When eating Himalayan salt, you are actually getting less sodium intake per serving than regular table salt because the pieces are larger and it is less refined. As a result, there is less sodium chloride per volume. Your body can easily absorb the minerals as they exist in colloidal form, which means they are small enough to penetrate your cells.

Fake Salt or Table Salt & Its Harms
Be extremely careful in avoiding highly processed table salt as it can cause severe health problems. In comparison to natural salt, the highly processed table variety has been compressed into white crystals from natural sea salt and contains extreme levels of sodium and chloride. This “fake” or table salt which is easily available on the market has been stripped of most of its natural trace minerals through a rigorous chemical process.

Most common table salt is made up of chemicals that pollute your body and wreak havoc on your health. Natural sea salt is bleached, cleaned with chemicals and then heated at extremely high temperatures. Manufacturers then add iodine which is almost always synthetic and difficult for our bodies to properly take in.

The salt is then treated with anti-caking agents that prevent it from dissolving in water or salt containers. These agents then prevent your body from absorbing the salt, leading to a build up of deposits within the organs. According to several studies, every gram of table salt that your body cannot process will require 20 TIMES the amount of cellular water to neutralize. The reality is that we hardly ever drink this much water to counteract the chemically treated salt so much of it remains in our bodies. So this is how salt gets its bad name. It is not salt per se that is unhealthy but refined table salt that is inferior for health.

Apart from this, many of us are consuming way too much processed food which contains astronomical amounts of bad salt. However, it is not so much about limiting our amount of salt but consuming more natural, homemade whole foods. This way, we can add natural real salt while cooking or sprinkle some on our meals without having to worry about high blood pressure and so on. Unfortunately, many doctors and nutritionists label all salt “poison” and “toxins” without knowing the distinction between good and bad salt.
