Iodine and The Human Body

Iodine is so badly needed in your body that even taking in micrograms of it cannot be underestimated.

How much iodine must I take daily?

Minimum 1-6 drops per day. Each drop at least 1800mcg.

Iodine is such an important trace element that without it may cause or contribute to mental retardation and cancer, among other diseases.

Iodine is essential for the synthesis of hormones in the body. Parts of your body that use up large amounts of iodine are the brain, breasts, cerebral spinal fluid, pancreas, salivary glands, skin, stomach and thymus. Your thyroid gland also uses Iodine to regulate metabolism and develop or maintain both your skeleton and brain.

According to several studies, iodine will develop the brain and intellectual abilities in children. In pregnant ladies, it will support the pregnancies. It can also prevent a host of diseases such as vicious heart disease. However the best news is this: high doses of iodine can actually reverse diseases!

Without sufficient iodine, the reverse is frightening! Iodine deficiency is now a global health threat and has increased fourfold in the last 40 years. It yields about 1 to 10% cretinism, 5 to 30% brain damage and 30-70% loss of energy. However, it is the most common and yet preventable cause of brain damage throughout the world.

20 Powerful Functions of Iodine

  1. Develops brain abilities and increase IQ
Iodine is absolutely essential in human body, in especially the development of children’s brain and intellectual abilities. This is emphasized in a speech by Dr. Jorge Flechas, MD at the Restorative Medicine Conference in Portland, Oregon in 2011. Watch his video. Reference: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=uc4Q3kzBSc4

Iodine makes us smarter. In the Bleichrodt study of 1994 in children, low iodine levels can cause IQ levels to drop drastically! Conversely when meta-analyzed across 17 studies, having sufficient iodine can increase IQ by 13.5 points!Since iodine facilitates mental functioning, this applies not just to children but adults too. When there is too much lead in the body, it leads to low thyroid function which causes a host of mental problems. In his book Solved: The Riddle of Illness, Dr. Steven Langer shows how it affects cognitive impairment, memory loss, depression, slowness of mind, anxiety, suicidal tendencies and a variety of psychiatric disorders. If iodine is supplemented, it not only chelates lead which is toxic but prevents it from lodging in the body in the first place, according to Dr. Jorge Flechas. With iodine, you can push out fluoride, one of the major culprits responsible for lead accumulation in the body. Too much lead causes low thyroid function which then decreases brain circulation and slows intellectual function.
  2. Synthesizes thyroid hormones and reverses thyroid problems
Having sufficient iodine helps prevent and reverse hypo and hyperthyroidism.
  3. Supports death of unhealthy cells (apoptosis)
One of iodine’s major functions is to support apoptosis, or the programmed cell death of unhealthy cells, together with oxygen. This protects against cancer and facilitates youth.
  4. Activates hormone receptors and prevents certain cancers such as breast cancer
Iodine activates hormone receptors and helps prevent certain forms of cancer. With sufficient amounts of iodine, you can prevent cancers of the breasts, thyroid, ovaries, stomach and esophagus. Iodine serves to prevent lipid peroxidation especially in breast cancer, and having a deficiency in it will increase its incidences.
  5. Protects ATP function, the main energy source for most cellular functions
Iodine protects ATP function and enhances ATP production. ATP is the main energy source for the majority of cellular functions including the synthesis of macromolecules such as DNA, RNA and proteins. ATP also plays a critical role in transporting macromolecules across cell membranes.
  6. Reverses certain diseases with higher doses
At higher doses, iodine cures syphilis, skin lesions and chronic lung disease. This higher dosage at 6 grams daily (6 million micrograms/day or 6,000 milligrams/day) has been used to treat and reverse these diseases.
  7. Restores tissues and hair growth
When applied topically at high doses, you can heal wounds, bedsores, inflammatory and traumatic pain. You can even restore hair growth! Iodine helps in diminishing scar tissue, keloid formations and hyper-scarring conditions such as Dupuytren’s and Peyronie’s contractures.
  8. Relieves headaches and eliminate toenail fungus.
  9. Prevents fibrocystic breast disease
  10. Regulates estrogen production in the ovaries
  11. Supports pregnancy as the fetus undergoes more apoptosis than any other developmental stage
  12. Decreases insulin needs in diabetics
  13. Helps support protein synthesis
  14. Supports immune function
  15. Hydrates the cells by neutralizing hydroxyl ions
  16. Prevents heart disease
  17. Destroys pathogens, molds, fungi, parasites and malaria
  18. Eliminates toxic halogens from the body including radioactive I-131
Iodine gives significant protection against the toxic effects of exposure to radiation, such as that of radioactive I-131 from Fukushima. Unlike Chernobyl, Fukushima has yet been sealed off. When the thyroid as well as the whole body is saturated with healthy iodine (I-127), their vulnerable receptor sites are protected from and eliminate radioactive I-131. What is miraculous is that Chernobyl survivors who took iodine even after the nuclear fallout escaped thyroid cancer.
  19. Prevents hypothyroidism caused by frequent use of cordless phones, cell phones and smart meters
  20. Reduces mucus catarrh with its anti-mucolytic qualities

Facts of Iodine

  • Your human body can hold 1,500 mg of iodine in total
  • Your thyroid can hold a maximum of 50 mg of iodine
  • 20 percent of the iodine in your body is held in your skin, so if your skin is depleted of iodine, you will not be able to sweat
  • 32 percent of your body’s iodine stores are in your muscles (if muscles are depleted, pain and other fibromyalgia symptoms can develop)

* Adequate Intake (AI)

The World Health Organization (WHO), United Nations Children’s Fund (UNICEF), and the International Council for the Control of Iodine Deficiency Disorders (ICCIDD) recommend a slightly higher iodine intake for pregnant women of 250 mcg per day.

It is important to note that the current US RDA for iodine is not in milligram doses but micrograms. (1000 microgram = 1 milligram, 1000 milligram = 1gram)

Do You Know?

Iodine can increase IQ in children by 13.5 points! It is also a must for adults to stay mentally alert far into old age.
